Widespread compact fluorescent lamp evaluations in 50 Hz electrical network

Rapid development in electrical technology has imposed strong challenges to modern power system. Power quality become a great concern due proliferation of electronic loads. Specifically for lighting load such as compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), one the concerning issues is harmonics. CFL cost-competitive and energy efficient compared incandescent lamp. Inevitably, produces harmonics current nonlinearity behaviour ballast circuit. This paper presents study on widespread installation network. Initially, harmonic characteristics local-branded was identified from laboratory measurement. Then, simulated model developed MATLAB/Simulink replicate characteristics. The same step repeated other two different brands where eventually all models were embedded into distribution results show that at low voltage level, with more than 50 units each type CFL, distortion exceeded 8% total (THD) limit stipulated EN50160 standard. However, higher voltage, amount THD decreased average 0.94% further down 0.28% small transmission level.
